Fresh install Steam loaded once and not anymore

Hi,
I had Mint for a year, went on to try some other distros, and back to Mint now 20.3 as this is by far the most stable distro I found

Just installed the OS, Steam and a handful of apps, using NVIDIA drive 510.
Steam opened, I installed some games (didn't launch any), then rebooted and steam doesn't launch anymore.

Below the dmesg output, I googled the NOPTI seems to be related to the Intel meltdown but that was years ago, not sure why I'm getting this.
I did a deletion of ~/.local/share/Steam and ~/.steam folders, which got it to launch it again. However, after I closed it and tried again, error is back.

I have an Intel integrated graphics along with NVIDIA GPU. My setup hasn't changed when I was on Mint in the past, all the same.

The ROG STRIX Z490-H GAMING takes a 10th-gen Intel CPU which means you want to be using a newer kernel than 5.4 because 5.4 does not have the Intel graphics drivers your system needs. The 5.13 kernel is available in Update Manager and does have the drivers.

Instructions for upgrading to the 5.13 kernel:

• Open Update Manager.
• Select View > Linux Kernels and click Continue.
• Make sure 5.13 is selected on the left panel and then click the top-most option on the right panel. An "Install" button will appear.
• Install the kernel and then reboot for it to become active.

Check inxi -Gx to make sure the graphic drivers are loaded for both GPUs after you upgrade the kernel.

Wow, I'd have never guessed that, maybe I was already upgrading kernels in my previous mint install I didn't appreciate something like that would have happened.

I have launched steam via shortcut and terminal and nothing. I'm kind of running out of options on what to do

Could you please explain what you mean by "nothing" because what you posted indicates Steam is running.

Nothing is showing, no window, no steam icon, it doesn't seem to be running, below the dmesg output, it looks like something went wrong.
I have reinstalled steam using the .deb file from their website, using flatpak, and using apt. I always get it working the first time I run it, then I reboot and launch it again and the below errors are thrown.
I'm sorry I misunderstood your previous post, I did update my BIOS just now but still nothing.

EDIT: I have reversed the NVIDIA driver from 510 to 470 which seems to have done the trick, then put it back to 510 and it ran once then error again, then put 470 and it seems to be working fine again. Is there any known issues with 510 as that's the "recommended version"? Maybe I can try reinstalling the 510 driver (not sure how)?

The only known issues are with the MATE desktop environment which you are not using.

Steam issues are normally posted in the Gaming section of this forum. I see a topic from earlier this month Can't launch steam [SOLVED] which shows the same terminal output lines you have posted. The solution for that person was to remove their steam files from their home directory. Perhaps that will work for you as well.

I seem to recall seeing some other Steam issues, but I don't recall if they had any relation at all to the video driver.

So after many restarts and driver changes (470, 510 and Noveau), I noticed is definitely linked to 510 driver + Mint 20.3 as found on this link people with the same issue.

What threw me off was I would run steam on terminal after I already tried from the panel/shortcut, which then the dump already happened and it doesn't work again until I reboot, if I do that and try steam from terminal many times it just works, and if I open once via shortcut it doesn't and then neither does via terminal.
If I downgrade to 470 it works normally but then my games performance dropped significantly don't know why, so that's not an option, and Noveau also works well (although poor performance as well known).
So this is a bug with the new Mint + 510 driver, and as people suggested you can launch steam from the icon if you right-click it and select Library OR via terminal.

Which means it is not a bug with LM20.3 and the Nvidia-510 driver. Because it would never work if it was.

There is likely something in the steam code causing an issue.
