No internet access after using ProtonVPN SOLVED

Post by another person »

ProtonVPN destroys my internet connection.
After I was logged out for no reason while ProtonVPN was running I lost all internet access. Somehow my computer logged me out and all my apps closed and it caused ProtonVPN to lock my internet.
I
made sure to:
I purged all protonVPN packages through Synaptic (completely remove all traces of the 6 packages)
I deleted the dummy network connection through nmcli command (pvpn ipv6 leak protection)
Now when I type nmcli connection show --active I just get my regular ethernet connection nothing else.
I still have no internet, protonvpn is off the system, I deleted the dummy connection and rebooted, Its not my modem or router as I'm using my second computer to post this hooked up and no issue.

next time try disconnecting from Proton.

Code: Select all

protonvpn-cli disconnect
I lose connection to the internet too if i do not fully disconnect from the VPN after a computer sleep for example.

I'll have to try this solution next time.

I used Timeshift to go back to the time before I installed ProtonVPN and that resolved the problem.

You may have had the "Kill Switch" on? I've used ProtonVPN with no issues on Mint 20.3.

You can always restart the Network Manager if that happens by...

Code: Select all

service network-manager restart
PM VPN Kill Switch.jpg
