My admin account get only limited access to some NTFS partitions (no Win10 here)

Post by Menard »

Hello

I have access to almost all on these partitions (write, delete) but their content appear grey and with some applications when i save a file I cannot use the file names that are allready present to build the file of the new one, you know, I do like this ... when I want to write my new file I first click on a file that is in the target folder and I modify it , but then without this I lose some time to write new file names ...
It is not a problem from a standard account with sudo I am currently using, these data are owned by root, and from my standard account it is mentionned : you are not the owner so you cannot change these permissions ... but what ? I can do all I want with that content

Some time ago I noticed something similar. (Dual boot - two partitions, one NTFS). After being in the Windows 10 session and shutting down, I did not have all access rights in the NTFS partition with Linux. The reason is: Shutting down Windows (with Fast Start mode ) blocks you from modifying your data from outside.
So, end your Windows 10 session with a restart and select now in dual boot Linux. As an alternative, disable the Windows 10 fast start mode.

To be clear I ve more rights on my current NTFS partitions with my standard account than with my admin account ... How is this possible ? W-T-F ?

I never use sudo with my ntfs drive because everything works without using sudo. I really should change it to ext4, but I keep it around as one of the last ntfs drives I have. I don't know what is the cause of your problem if it is not faststart. Perhaps some pics would help others to help you.

Just a passing comment.

So far you have provided no information about these ntfs partitions that would allow anyone here to even guess at a solution.

How about posting the output of the following commands for a start:

Code: Select all

sudo blkid -c /dev/null -o list

Code: Select all

cat /etc/fstab

Code: Select all

mount | grep fuseblk
Please add a [SOLVED] at the end of your original subject header if your question has been answered and solved.

This is mainly 80ACB656ACB64686 that is concerned but I suppose the others get the same problem

Pics of what ? pics showing that the content is in grey ? and that the file properties say that I cannot change permissions because I am not the owner ? But every where on my PC they say this, however grey or not the content is ...
and when it comes from win10 anyway the content is not in grey, though I have no write or delete rights ...

Anyway no faststart because no laptop :) desktop power

In fact I made a big mistake with this subject
What I describe is not with Nemo, it is only when I am in the "Save as" of some application, as Gnome-screenshot that the content of folders appear in grey and is not clickable
