Deluge update

Post by edelman_b »

Hi,

I have been using the deluge torrent client for quite a while. However there was an update for it (from 2.0.5 to 2.1.0) that I applied on the weekend and now I can't get it working in standalone mode. I get errors that no libtorrent library found. It seems to be biased towards thin client mode but I only want to run it on a single machine as I have for years.
Deluge, Deluge-gtk and Python3-libtorrent are installed.
Any help appreciated.

Thanks, Brad

Looking at the ubuntu package site for Ubuntu (and hence Mint) ...

https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=deluge

... I see that neither deluge 2.0.5 nor 2.1.0 are actually officially supported by either Ubntu or Mint. Which tells me you used a ppa or non repo .deb file. Neither are supported by Mintl. WHich means you should go to where you got the ppa or .deb from for support.

This is the software manager of LM20.3 MATE.
You can install 2.0.3 - works fine. Higher versions are now at your risk...

The update was from Update Manager of LM19.3 Cinnamon:

Also available through Software Manager:

How do I get back to 2.0.5?

Thanks, Brad

You can see that you have added a Deluge source that is not the default in Mint

I did in an effort to get deluge working standalone. But it didn't work so I thought I removed it and installed from Software Manager.

If you have an old Timeshift image, you can go back to it. This is the easiest solution.

Restoring a Timeshift snapshot for removing only a non-working version of Deluge? You don't know what other changes already made to that system will be reverted along with the deluge update.
Uninstall app. Delete ppa. Reinstall the package provided by the distro.

sudo apt remove deluge
sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:deluge-team/stable
sudo apt update && sudo apt install deluge-gtk

or using gui
uninstall deluge
remove ppa from your "Software Sources" app
Refresh repo list
install the application through the Software Manager

I think it makes sense to remove possible new changes in the Python version, which new versions of Deluge may have done. It is not clear if there is backwards compatibility and uninstalling Deluge might not be enough.

About Deluge I ve found an issue : some torrents can overcome the "Stop at ratio ..." setting ... perhaps only if it was changed after the download, or not

Thanks All,
My timeshift snapshots are too recent and too old so I uninstalled the app, deleted ppa but in Software Manager Deluge is now Not Available.
I'll try again later.

Deluge v2.0.3

Code: Select all

sudo apt install deluge
that's what you will get if you use the one in the repositories for Mint v20.x series. it's from June 2019, but it still works well enough to this day.

but in regards to 'no libtorrent library found' it's probably because when you read their changelog for v2.1.0 it says...

Python 2 support removed (Python >= 3.6)
libtorrent minimum requirement increased (>= 1.2).

How do I remove? I'm having similar issues after pulling this linux machine out of storage. I have removed and reinstalled. whatever they pushed out is breaking other tor apps.

You have to open the Update Manager and the last tab concerns the repositories it is easy to remove a repository from there
