No audio output in google meet using chrome based browsers

Post by karan842 »

I switched to Linux Mint 20.3 Una (xfce) from ubuntu, and its not been a good experience so far. Everytime I join a GOOGLE MEET meeting using google chrome or any chromium based browser, I recieve no audio output from the participants, they can hear my voice. I also noticed this problem doesn't occur in firefox browser. I only prefer chrome for personal reasons, please help me to fix this problem.

click on the padlock symbol in the address bar and change the permissions for the web page
I’ll tell you a DNS joke but be advised, it could take up to 24 hours for everyone to get it.

I have did a fresh installation of chrome beta, chromium and brave browser, no audio output came in either of chromium based browser, but works flawlessly in firefox. In the meeting I can see the participants turned on their mic, but can't hear a thing however they can hear me. Other than Google meet, the audio comes in other general websites. Please anyone help me to fix this problem

Please open your sound setting, click on Output tab, and tell us what devices are listed.
Test the sound.
Then click on any alternative device that is not selected, test the sound, and then close.
Open again, click back to Line Out Built-in Audio, and then test again.
Any improvement?

Hi Mike, Thanks for your reply, I saw your attached image but mine looks completely different. I am using Xfce 20.3. I am sharing screenshots of available settings I can see below. Can you suggest me what I can do from these. In the Port option of Output Devices there are two options "Speakers" and "Headphones (Unpluged)".

Yeah, I saw that you were on xfce, and I thought it might be different.
Any chance that clicking on this speaker button will fix it? I doubt it:

Since it works in FF I think we are wasting our time with these settings.

No, that button mute the audio for everything. Actually there's an extension called Pluckeye, and it only works on chromium based browsers, else I wouldn't had bothered looking for help. I thought maybe there's some setting inside chrome that might fix it. But anyway thanks for help :) . I am on a low end pc with 4Gb i3 so I need to keep using xfce, but I might try to downgrade to older version of xfce in future.
