That's not really something recommended as they are still test kernels but if you really must scratch that itch:

Read very carefully the entire page: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds

I’ll tell you a DNS joke but be advised, it could take up to 24 hours for everyone to get it.

For me, all kernels so far after 5.18.0 cause sound issues with my machines (crackling/garbling with system sounds).
Everything functioning fine with 5.18.0 on my desktop and laptop machines.

As suggested by others, you might want to read about possible issues with installing these latest kernels.

I have dual boot Mint/Manjaro and kernel 5.19 works perfect on Manjaro, does that means it could work on mint too?

The same answer I gave you already.

But you did not answer the question for the "why".

Yeah, OK for upstream (kernel.org). Which doesn't equal OK for downstream (Ubuntu/Mint).

The Ubuntu devs, collaborating in the Ubuntu Kernel Team, modify and adapt the raw upstream kernels (mainline kernels) for Ubuntu. And therefore also for Mint, as Mint uses pure Ubuntu kernels.

Which is why running mainline kernels in your Ubuntu or Mint, is generally a bad idea. You then miss out on all of those modifications, added drivers, quashed bugs and other good stuff. As we're talking about the very heart of your system, this is a sore loss.

He doesn't use Linux Mint though or have the same hardware as you

Since i had better performance when i changed default kernel on manjaro (5.15) to kernel 5.18 and later on 5.19, i was asking myself if mint performs better with those more recent kernels but if that causes some kind of instability or breaks the system i prefer stay with the kernels available on Mint !
Thank you guys for the sincere opinions !

I installed kernel 5.19 on MInt 21 yesterday, based on others already having done the same. Might be different if I was a commercial user.

I think that the bottom line truth about kernel changes is that doing them can solve problems as well as sometimes causing them. It does not take much searching to find examples both ways. Depends on how advanced or not so much, ones computer is. In my case moving up to a kernel, that was not official with Mint, a couple of years back, solved my sound problem on a Dell XPS 1700. I was advised to try that by a guru on this forum. When I have an issue I like to try to solve it, If one keeps backups recovery is possible.

I also take chances when I don't have a problem (my choice) because I enjoy the thrill.

Something I do. Your millage may vary. Is use the Liquorix kernel. I have been using it for years with only positive effects. System is faster and all my hardware works. You can find it here.>

Code: Select all

https://liquorix.net/

Use Ubuntu 64 bit, follow the instructions, once it is installed it will cause an error when you run update or synaptic. The solution is here>

Code: Select all

It is on you if you botch it up. Have fun.
