epsonscan2 fails on linux mint 21 with epson perfection V37

Hi,
My Epson Perfection V37 scanner worked well on linux mint 20.3 using epsonscan2.
I have now done a fresh install of linux mint 21 ( not an upgrade ). I have installed epsonscan2-bundle-6.6.42.0.x86_64.deb which has enabled me to use the standard "document scanner" application. Other SANE based applications e.g. imagescan also work.
However, the installed epsonscan2 application detects the scanner but fails to load the main application. Running it from a terminal yields a 'segmentation fault' error report.
It looks like my old scanner is still well supported by SANE but is there something wrong with epsonscan2? I particularly like epsonscan2 because it gives me incremental scan numbering, so that I can scan and save with one key press.
Can anyone help with my problem please.
