How to mount ?

Post by Menard »

Hello

For one partition that I don't want to mount at startup I use this in gnome-disks-utility :
Select disk
Select partition
"gear wheel"
Edit Mount Options >> /media/u3/partitionlabel
and
Identify as LABEL=ITS_LABEL

Is this correct ?

Also need to explain options you choose (need to include noauto is you don't want it automount on starting), See man mount.

I am not complicated, I let those set by default :) nosuid,nodev,nofail,noauto,x-gvfs-show
but I ask for this because I see that the default mountpoint proposed for other partitions is /mnt/UUID and it keeps the last mountpoint set if it's /media/...
but I don't remember why I set it like this /media/...

I guess this is because Nemo mount them as /media/ I ve checked this

Yes /media/user/LABEL is the defaullt mount point when clicking on Nemo devices bookmark if and they are labeled. I have seen on another post you use /mnt/UUIDs.
/dev/disk/by-uuid/5369961B0C75217E /mnt/5369961B0C75217E auto nosuid,nodev,nofail,x-gvfs-show 0 0
/dev/disk/by-uuid/80ACB656ACB64686 /mnt/80ACB656ACB64686 auto nosuid,nodev,nofail,x-gvfs-show 0 0
/dev/disk/by-uuid/924CFEB44CFE9269 /mnt/924CFEB44CFE9269 auto nosuid,nodev,nofail,x-gvfs-show 0 0
LABEL=NT2 /media/u3/NT2 auto nosuid,nodev,nofail,noauto,x-gvfs-show 0 0
I you have different users (u1,u2,u3) I think it is a better choice mount on /mnt/LABEL.
LABEL=NT2 /mnt/NT2 auto nosuid,nodev,nofail,noauto,x-gvfs-show 0 0
So you can create labels for the rest partitons and do it the same.

Notice when changing automount options from Disks it creates folders automatically, remove lines and create new lines on fstab. In other cases (i.e. modifying etc/fstab or form terminal) you need to create also folders (by example sudo mkdir /mnt/NT2 , unmont sudo umount /media/u3/NT2 and remove unused folders sudo rmdir /media/u3/NT2)

I don't see a clear difference between both, mnt or media

For this partition NT2 I have to mount it only for one user (u3)
