[SOLVED] Mint 21 XFCE: xreader shows only index of epub files

Hi,

After a smooth upgrade to Mint 21, I notice that xreader fails to properly open any epub file. Only the index is shown.
The error message is: Error loading data from file:///tmp/xreader-17651/<filename>CDNOQ1/OEBPS/Text/titlepage.xhtml: Frame load interrupted.

Strangely enough and possibly related, fbreader dumps core and foliate cannot open the files (empty response). Calibre's viewer displays epubs correctly.

Any suggestion would be very much appreciated.
