Audio Player Stops Working

Post by Aviator »

Good day,

I am new to Linux. I built a new computer using an ASUS Prime H610M-E D4, Intel I5 12400 Processor, Samsung M.2 NVMe SSD, G.Skill 8GB memory. I installed the latest version of Mint Cinnamon 21. All seems well so far but one problem I don't know how to resolve is a problem with two audio players, RhythmBox and QMMP. I listen to internet radio a lot while working at the computer. When I start either of these players, they play fine for about 15 to 30 minutes then stop playing as though I hit the stop button. If I click the play button, they start again and play for roughly the same time then stop again.

There is nothing I can see in the power management settings that would be doing this. I ran Cinnamon 20.3 on another computer and did not have this problem. I first noticed it with the installed RhythmBox player, then I installed QMMP and found the same problem with it.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

Boot the live system for Mint 21 and test the issue with Rhythmbox.

Thanks for the replies. As I am new to Linux, can you tell me where to find the settings that will adjust this? I have looked in the power management tab but the settings there only deal with the monitor and and system for inactivity periods of which he system is set to "never." I don't see these settings for the audio players themselves.

I don't know if this could have anything to do with buffering or not as with my Windows machine, if the internet slows, the Winamp player will buffer until it receives the signal and continues to play. When RyhthmBox and QMMP players stop, they don't try to reconnect. It is as if I hit the stop button and stays in that state unless I hit the play button or close the app.

Thank you.

To the best of my ability, I have troubleshot audio issues both on Mint and Ubuntu which share a base kernel and it seems something broke in the last update. For myself, both ubuntu and mint have a no sound problem and I am not sure how to find the issue myself. Any help would be appreciated which I would love so that my music or music could be enjoyed or I could listen to an audiobook.

LoL yeah, just a little bit more troubleshooting, and the issue was resolved...check the audio output setting. It turned out my specific issue was I wasn't using Line Out setting.
