(Solved)Install Cura 4.9 on Linux Mint 20
I am a long time Windows user. 30+ years.
Lately I installed Linus Mint 20 over an outdated Windows 7 laptop. I know nothing about LInux OS and I decided to learn a little about this OS.... at the age of 79.
I am also a 3D printing hobbyist.
So, naturally I wanted to install Cura 4.9 to my Linux. I downloaded it to the Download folder, but no idea how to install it.
I googled for an answer and came up with this......
sudo apt update
sudo apt install cura
I did that on the Terminal and it was successful.
However, upon opening the Cura slicer, I found that it is an older version Cura 4.4, not 4.9.
I need someone to teach me how to install Cura 4.9.
Thank you.

Re: Install Cura 4.9 on Linux Mint 20
Thank you for the reply.
However, it does not succeed.
1. Ultimaker-Cura-5.1.0-linux.AppImage downloaded onto folder. But, right click at it does not give me "open in terminal". It has Open, Open with other application. No "open in terminal".
2. I opened the terminal and enter the command you gave me and it shows error......

Sorry, I tried to post a screenshot of the error message. Did not work the way I knew it.
The error message says......No such file or directory.
I triple checked on my typing of the command line. No mistake there.

Re: Install Cura 4.9 on Linux Mint 20
OK. Now I got the "open in terminal". Follow the original instructions and commands. The rest went with no issue.
I now have Cura 5.1 on my Linux.
Thank you very much.
P.S.
I don't see anywhere to mark this thread as Solved.
I suppose it is the Moderator's job?

Thank you. Thread is marked.
Know why I couldn't find a way to marked it Solved?
On my Windows 10 computer, there is no "pencil" icon on my thread. But I found it on my Linux computer.

I'm not sure why there might be a difference. Are you using the same browser in both operating systems?davidhk129 wrote: ⤴Thu Aug 18, 2022 10:14 pmOn my Windows 10 computer, there is no "pencil" icon on my thread. But I found it on my Linux computer.

No. Different browsers.
Linux uses FireFox.
Windows uses Edge

Thanks for the feedback. I will pass that information to the Forum Admins. I'm not sure what might be different about that one button.

Re: Install Cura 4.9 on Linux Mint 20
As posted before, I have managed to install Cura 5.1 following your instructions. Thank you.demianxldc wrote: ⤴Thu Aug 18, 2022 8:44 pm dont right click in the file... just in the white screen of the folder

I have one minor issue......
How to get a "shortcut" of Cura 5.1 on my desktop?
As of now, if I exit Cura after use, I will have to run the exe file again each time I want to use it.
Is there a better way?
If I recall correctly, I used to find the Cura 5.1 icon in Education folder. But this Education folder has disappeared. I might have accidentally deleted it. I don't know.

go to terminal wheres is you cura "exe"
now you need a text editor, so i use this "gedit"
to install tipe this command
sudo apt install gedit
now, we need create a file called "cura.desktop"
type this command
gedit cura.desktop
now you gedit text editor is open in blank.... paste all this code in file, edit "Exec" if you need
where Exec is the full route to the file and the name of the file...respect uppercase and lowercase. and save the file. copy the file to desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Cura
Exec=/home/asus/Download/Ultimaker_Cura-4.13.1.AppImage

Re: (Solved)Install Cura 4.9 on Linux Mint 20
Thank you for the reply and instructions.
I have one question :
Your instruction includes Cura 4.13.1, but I am on Cura 5.1. Do I replace 4.13.1 with 5.1.0 when I type in the commands?
I am an absolute Linux beginner. Totally Linux illiterate. Not sure I am able to follow your instructions. I'll give it a go.
Thank you.

Thank you.
I followed your instructions, starting from:
sudo apt install gedit ,then, gedit cura.desktop , then lastly paste the code to the blank text editor.
Nothing happens on desktop.
