[SOLVED] Online Accounts, "expired" Google account cannot be resumed

Post by rsholmes »

In Online Accounts it says Google credentials have expired.

I tried signing back in, all seemed normal, but once done it still said credentials were expired.

I tried removing and reinstating the Google account, it still says expired.

I tried /usr/libexec/goa-daemon --replace and got:

Code: Select all

goa-daemon-Message: 22:30:55.852: goa-daemon version 3.44.0 starting

(goa-daemon:3890419): GoaBackend-WARNING **: 22:30:57.400: secret_password_lookup_sync() returned NULL
goa-daemon-Message: 22:30:57.400: /org/gnome/OnlineAccounts/Accounts/account_1662776901_0: Setting AttentionNeeded to TRUE because EnsureCredentials() failed with: No credentials found in the keyring (goa-error-quark, 4)

and the command does not terminate.

Code: Select all

Re: Online Accounts, "expired" Google account cannot be resumed

Post by rpbrown1952 »

I'm having the exact same problem. I've tried removing and re-entering my account information several times, but always get the same "expired" message. I also went to "Passwords and Keys" and removed the entry:

{'authorization_code': <'4/0ARtbsJp6RE3W3Kt4MHCqou4mwsn3I-CazmhBiujA9i28vIPGglQH-QzC5MJE6BuT6Ob9_Q'>, 'access_token': <'ya29.a0Aa4xrXOVMLCDNpJOzBtj2gNiAkivYXC0ftS7IrnVld8dk8bx0DyahK3H6iSJ7Xtv4oY03uBQnJMpkQBLUWr4RUh_0FEMbdb3isbsvKEM44PnQViJElb2OBtxqzbpLrEMkUBRFdR0mUmg-eCSAIiuPL31ac0yaCgYKATASARISFQEjDvL9kbFP7vRIc8yuKpMHxhVnOw0163'>, 'access_token_expires_at': <int64 1663445946566349>, 'refresh_token': <'1//06xkBkRD0YQRHCgYIARAAGAYSNwF-L9Ir4enKom790SymMak5YflA9AUteFhF_BWevWUpTmhwyFzZCQil8vAFvQXLrX7NLwrW21A'>}

and reentered my account information. That did not help either. I am able to login to my google account with no problem using both Firefox and Thunderbird.

Here is my system info:

I was having the same problem in Vera.
I looked in "Password and Keys". For whatever reason there were 3 entries in there. I highlighted each one and deleted. I was then able to go through the on-line accounts process again, going through the Google 2FA process once more and all is fine. The LM calendar works a treat.

In that case what is "Password and Keys"? Something other than "Online Accounts" in the Preferences menu?

To me it is a program in LM:

.
Show us where you see it and we'll try to elaborate. I don't see any Preferences menu in "Online Accounts"

Online Accounts is in Preferences:
Screenshot from 2023-01-15 12-04-39.png
Going there I found "Credentials have expired":
Screenshot from 2023-01-15 12-05-12.png
When I first encountered this several months ago I tried clicking Sign In and it put me through the Google sign in process, but still showed "Credentials have expired" when I was done.

Today (now using LM21.1) I tried signing in again and when done it no longer showed "Credentials have expired". However my Google calendars were still not appearing in Calendar.

I went into Passwords and Keys and found, besides a whole bunch of very out of date Google Chrome passwords despite Chrome's saying it knew of none, several "GOA google credentials" entries.
Screenshot from 2023-01-15 12-18-06.png
I deleted all these. Then Online Accounts was showing "Credentials have expired" again. I signed in again, "Credentials have expired" went away. I clicked on "Google Accounts" and disabled and then re-enabled Calendar. Then and only then did my Google calendars appear in Calendar.

I conclude that whatever the problem was before, it is now gone, so I am marking this Solved.

Mint 21.1 Fresh install

I know you mark it as solved, but I'm running in the same problem, and it looks it happened after a logout and login or after a hibernation.
Rebooting resolved the problem, but it reappears after each logout/login process.

Maybe someone has an idea about that.

Thanks

Click on the Google account in Online Accounts and disable some of the "Use for". I disable the first 3. Perhaps if you disable some you don't need your problem will go away - maybe.

I have removed the "solved" tag from the title because this problem has recurred. This time there was only one GOA google credentials entry in Passwords and Keys, and deleting that, and deleting and re-adding Google in Online Accounts, didn't work; it still says "expired". As for disabling the "Use for" entries — they were all disabled when I finished signing in. So I'm back at square one.

Maybe you should try removing the account and then putting it back:

As I said
and deleting and re-adding Google in Online Accounts
I did that.

I've run into this problem constantly. Logout/login often makes Online Accounts lose its ability to connect. It only reconnects after a full system reboot.

That is absolutely not what is happening here. The Google account is in very active regular use.

Thank you. I've implemented the killall startup command and so far, after a login cycle and a reboot cycle, account is still enabled. I will mark this solved (again).

Also, the bug report bug report I filed on the gnome-online-accounts gitlab four months ago... has not been responded to or acted upon in any way. On further examination it appears to be the same issue as #52, posted three years ago, which... has not been responded to or acted upon in any way.

If your Google account has been deactivated due to inactivity, it may not be possible to resume it, as Google's policy is to periodically clean up inactive accounts to free up resources.
To avoid losing access to your Google account, it's important to regularly log into your account and use it, or to set up account activity notifications to be alerted if your account becomes inactive.
If your Google account has been deactivated, you may be able to create a new account with a different email address. However, any data, such as emails, contacts, and files stored in your expired account, will be lost and cannot be recovered.
In conclusion, it's best to regularly log into and use your online accounts to avoid having them become inactive and potentially being deactivated.
This is definitely *not* the case. Online Accounts *falsely reports* that your account has expired, but only after a login/logout. After a reboot, it is active again. The problem is, if I've read correctly, that goa-daemon is not being shutdown correctly at logout, while the keyring is. So Online Accounts gets discconnected from the keyring, can't reconnect to the new keyring after login, and so can no longer confirm login info and reports an expired account. This happens with all accounts, all at once, not just Google. It happens with my Microsoft Exchange account as well. This is a bug issue, not a deactivated account issue.
