Help migrating Rhythmbox to a new OS

Post by Messed_up_Linux »

Hello,

I recently installed the latest Linux Mint OS on my existing laptop from scratch. I used the Backup tool to migrate my hard drive and I have to say this worked nearly flawlessly. I'm happy in the new environment and won't be going back, but Rhythmbox has not migrated properly. All of my music is in the right folder. However, when I start Rhythmbox, all of my playlists and song information such as the playcount start disappearing.

I have the internet* for a solution, but nothing I have tried has worked. I have the "playlist.xml" and the "rhythmdb.xml" files and they are saved in the same location as before, but something is wrong.

Any ideas what could be wrong? I am also open to more drastic solutions (e.g. moving to a new player that (i) allows for customisation of playlists and song information including play counts, (ii) allows you to upload music from a local folder and works offline, and (iii) is easier than rhythmbox to migrate when changing OS or hardware).
