xournal++ stopped working

Post by tzell »

Hey forum,
The application xournal++ stopped working

The process seems to be running - 'xournalapp' but nothing is shows on screen
Have to manually kill it

I have tried reinstalling, didn't solve it

Logs show:

Code: Select all

rtkit-daemon: Failed to look up client: No such file or directory
systemd: Started app-flatpak-com.github.xournalpp.xournalpp-19947.scope.
Any idea how to troubleshoot?
Thanks!

Can you see if it gives any error messages on the Terminal? Run it on the Terminal with

Code: Select all

flatpak run com.github.xournalpp.xournalpp
and post the messages here.

Tried installing xapp, got:

sudo apt install xapp

Code: Select all

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 xapp : Depends: libxapp1 (= 2.2.8-1) but 2.2.15+vanessa is to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

sudo apt install libxapp1

Code: Select all

libxapp1 is already the newest version (2.2.15+vanessa).

Installing those with apt would not help anyway, because you are using a Flatpak, which uses dependencies separate from the apt system.

Xournal++ is available as a non-Flatpak in the repositories, I use it all the time. Maybe try that:

Code: Select all

apt install xournalpp
It will be a slightly older version than the Flatpak.

Thanks for clarifying that, didn't know flatpak uses different dependencies than apt.
The non flatpak version works, yes that workaround works.

Question is, is there a way to troubleshoot the reason why the flatpak version fails to load?

You should send that Terminal error output to the Xournal++ developers, I think they are the ones who make the Flatpak. https://github.com/xournalpp/xournalpp/issues
