[SOLVED] youtube downloader software

Post by tonywhelan »

On LM 20.3 I used the old youtubedl-gui app which I liked especially because you could queue multiple videos and download up to 3 videos simultaneously. But that version is not available in LM21.

Since rebuilding my main PC to Mint Cinnamon 21, the "new" youtube downloader (https://github.com/JaGoLi/ytdl-gui) doesn't handle queuing or simultaneous downloads, and as at today it has stopped working altogether on my main PC. It stalls at a reported 2% download (despite not having downloaded anything at all). I can't for the life of me see why. Tried re-installing from synaptic and also tried the appimage version in Software Manager.

I played with several alternatives which were also not successful till I found OpenVideo Downloader at https://github.com/StefanLobbenmeier/yo ... i/releases

Downloaded the AppImage version, made it executable, and bingo, and it seems to be working well. Uses yt-dlp not youtube-dl. Bonus is you can queue multiple videos to download and can download several simultaneously (default is 2).

PS The youtube downloader at https://github.com/JaGoLi/ytdl-gui works fine on another LM21 PC, just not on my main PC. Presume something got scrambled while I was customising the main PC.
