[solved] None of my installed flatpak app can be opened/used/loaded

Post by shin23 »

im new to linux, just moved from windows 10 this august

as said, none of my installed flatpak app can be loaded.
i tried to install enve, natron, and opentoonz
it is installed, it is listed in the graphic section in the menu list
but when i double clicked it, nothing happens
when i tried to run it on terminal, i get this kind of answer

Entered main()
Setup Default QSurfaceFormat
Gtk-Message: 12:50:10.964: Failed to load module "xapp-gtk3-module"
qt.glx: qglx_findConfig: Failed to finding matching FBConfig for QSurfaceFormat(version 3.3, options QFlags<QSurfaceFormat::FormatOption>(), depthBufferSize 0, redBufferSize 1, greenBufferSize 1, blueBufferSize 1, alphaBufferSize -1, stencilBufferSize 0, samples 0, swapBehavior QSurfaceFormat::SingleBuffer, swapInterval 1, colorSpace QSurfaceFormat::DefaultColorSpace, profile QSurfaceFormat::CoreProfile)
qt.glx: qglx_findConfig: Failed to finding matching FBConfig for QSurfaceFormat(version 3.3, options QFlags<QSurfaceFormat::FormatOption>(), depthBufferSize 0, redBufferSize 1, greenBufferSize 1, blueBufferSize 1, alphaBufferSize -1, stencilBufferSize 0, samples 0, swapBehavior QSurfaceFormat::SingleBuffer, swapInterval 1, colorSpace QSurfaceFormat::DefaultColorSpace, profile QSurfaceFormat::CoreProfile)
Could not initialize GLX

clearly i have no idea what im looking at
what should i do to solve this problem?

Hello shin23 welcome to the Forum.
Please share your system info by going to:
→→→→ Menu/System Reports/System Information/click "Copy"
and pasting it here.
(Equivalently, you can use the command inxi -Fxxxmprz on the Terminal.)

Can you also show

Code: Select all

flatpak list
Also show more error messages from all the other Flatpak apps when you launch them from the Terminal, such as

Code: Select all

flatpak run io.github.OpenToonz

Code: Select all

flatpak run fr.natron.Natron

Code: Select all

flatpak run io.github.maurycyliebner.enve

Hi,

I can't help you directly with your problem, but I can give you a link to a flatpak tutorial I wrote:
viewtopic.php?f=42&t=368501

The 1st generic advice is to update your flatpak installation:
- flatpak framework: by adding flatpak stable PPA (see tutorial)
- installed programs and runtimes: flatpak update in a terminal; then Update Manager / Edition / Preferences / Automation and slide the cursor to have automatic flatpak updates.

Then you can try to repair your installation: flatpak repair

Finally, if you still get problems, post the error messages you get when launching your apps in a terminal, but don't forget to precise to what app the error messages correspond.

Regards,

MN

Reason: Adding

tags to your output makes it easier to read. It preserves some formatting and puts long output in a neat scrollable box.

Hi,

"Failed to load module "xapp-gtk3-module" is a general error, without any consequence, that arrives systematically at each flatpak launch.

When you launch your apps in terminal, you just launch them with "flatpak run appname". Installed flatpak apps, when launched from the menu, are generally launched with more arguments; in the menu select the launcher, right click / properties and you will see the complete command used: copy it and use it in terminal, then copy again the error messages.

Did you update your flatpak framework with flatpak stable PPA? what is your flatpak version (output of flatpak --version)?

You could also try to uninstall your flatpak apps "flatpak uninstall appname" and associated runtimes if proposed; then install again "flatpak install appname.

Regards,

MN

Notice it's not "girl" but it's "gir1" with the number 1, not the letter l.

Simply copy/paste this: apt reinstall gir1.2-xapp-1.0

Hi,
In my menu (Mate), I have an option "Edit properties" and, when I select it, I can see the full launch command.
my flatpak version is
Flatpak 1.12.7
So, you didn't update your flatpak framework (latest version is 1.14.1).
In a terminal:

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:flatpak/stable
Then in the update manager actualize the lists of packages; it will propose you to update flatpak framework (flatpak, gir1.2-flatpak-1.0, libflatpak0, libostree-1-1, xdg-dbus-proxy, xdg-desktop-portal).
If the update manager proposes you other files, accept it, make a complete update of your system.
This done, you can add flathub to your remote sources:

Code: Select all

flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo
(This will allow you to search / install / uninstall from the terminal).
i've install and uninstalled it a few times already, if this doesnt work idk what to do man im new to linux
We are going to do a full uninstall and install:

Code: Select all

flatpak uninstall io.github.maurycyliebner.enve
flatpak uninstall fr.natron.Natron
flatpak uninstall io.github.OpenToonz
flatpak uninstall --unused
flatpak repair
Flatpak repair will test that, if any, remaining flatpak installation is OK.
Then launch your file manager, go to your home, type "CTRL+H" to see the hidden files and directories. We are going to delete the configuration directories of your non-working flatpaks.
Open "/.var/app" directory. Delete the following directories: "io.github.maurycyliebner.enve", "fr.natron.Natron", "io.github.OpenToonz".
Now we can install again the flatpaks:

Code: Select all

flatpak install io.github.maurycyliebner.enve
flatpak install fr.natron.Natron
flatpak install io.github.OpenToonz
flatpak repair
When installing a flatpak, accept all and answer Y (yes) to all proposals.
Your flatpaks installation is now OK; launch your flatpaks from your menu. They should work. If not, there is a problem in your system, and I don't know how to further help you.
I see that you have in your repositories "http://www.deb-multimedia.org/"; this repository is intended for various Debian versions, and not for Ubuntu 22.04 (on which Linux Mint 21 is based). This is also the case for "https://repo.protonvpn.com/debian". The use of these repositories might have broken some of your system libraries.

Regards,

MN

oh sorry haha
i've tried that and it doesnt solve it
it returns some error, like some 6 app cant be upgradable or something.
thank you so much for your help, i've found tahoma 2d that has similar tool to opentoonz, and it can be opened in appimage

im scared to continue that it will break my pc, if it breaks i dont have the money to buy a new one.
thanks again..i learned a lot of things from you...

Regards,

MN

it returns some error, like some 6 app cant be upgradable or something.
Could you copy/paste the error message? That error message could mean that your package system is already broken.

Anyway, it seems like you found some other solution to your issue? Is your problem solved?

i exited the terminal without copying the error
after i uninstalled all flatpak applications, i tried it again and this is the result
apt reinstall gir1.2-xapp-1.0
[sudo] password for shin:
The following packages will be REINSTALLED:
gir1.2-xapp-1.0
0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 reinstalled, 0 to remove and 148 not upgraded.
Need to get 0 B/18,1 kB of archives. After unpacking 0 B will be used.
(Reading database ... 438199 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to unpack .../gir1.2-xapp-1.0_2.2.15+vanessa_amd64.deb ...
Unpacking gir1.2-xapp-1.0 (2.2.15+vanessa) over (2.2.15+vanessa) ...
Setting up gir1.2-xapp-1.0 (2.2.15+vanessa) ...

the problem is kinda solved...i was looking for plastic mesh function from these applications..helps a lot with standstill animations
and i found tahoma 2d that is appimage based, it can run on my pc..no problem..

I'm glad things worked out.
148 not upgraded
You should probably get those upgrades for your system's security.

Hi,

148 not upgraded + the use of two incompatible repositories = system is broken (debian repositories have replaced some Ubuntu system libraries by some not compatible). As I wrote :

My advice is a full reinstall, from scratch or from system backup / snapshot made BEFORE the installation of "www.deb-multimedia.org" and "repo.protonvpn.com/debian" repositories.

And, of course, to NOT reinstall these repositories.

MN

hello Mike

after the last time i've consulted all sorts of things here, i uninstalled everything and gave up.
and then i tried installing opentoonz again the next day, and it miraculously installed properly.

i checked again today and it is still can be opened. dunno what happened but the problem is somehow fixed. thanks for everyones help on this forum :)
