How to configure power saving mode and decrease CPU frequency

Hi! I have Dell XPS 9720 with CPU i9-12900HK. On Linux Mint 21 I have only 2-2.5 hours battery life. Thats very little for work. I installed latest kernel and drivers, installed TLP and limited CPU frequency to 2000MHz, installed auto-cpufreq, but nothing helped.

You updated the kernel you have installed. The data does not show you installed the latest kernel and with a 12th-gen Intel CPU you want to be using something newer than the 5.15 kernel.

You can install the latest 6.0-oem kernel with

and reboot.

I also suggest you make sure your laptop is running the most recent BIOS/UEFI available. According to what I found, the latest is version 1.12.0.

Also, you are not going to get the best battery performance by using Nvidia all the time. You want to run Intel-Powersave mode if you prefer battery longevity.

Thanks, SMG! I installed latest BIOS, installed linux-oem-22.04b kernel, reinstalled auto-cpufreq and now I have much better battery life.
But now sound doesn't work( It works only with USB headphones. I'll create another topic for that.

There is also a 5.17-oem kernel you can try, but I don't know that it has all the optimizations for 12th-gen.

I've been waiting for the 5.19 kernel to become available in Update Manager, but so far people have indicated it is not yet available.

A lot of people are running into the issue related to sound with the 6.0-oem kernel. I do not yet know why that might be.
