Mouse not working randomly

Every boot, as I use mint(cinnamon), the cursor just randomly stops left clicking. Moving and right clicking works all the time, but to left click i have to suspend the system and login again. Sometimes have to completely reboot. Any help greatly appreciated.

This is actually a wired mouse(if that's what you meant), and I have anyways checked that there are no connection problems with the mouse or the computer, error persists. thanks anyways

. (I actually think this is a software issue than hardware).

I had a problem once with a wired mouse, left clicking, for my desktop tower and external monitor. Turns out, the wired mouse's left click button was wearing out. I replaced the old wired mouse with a new wired mouse and my left clicking problems went entirely away.

That sounds like the issue could relate to the port into which the mouse is connected. Ports are initialized/re-initialized when booting/resuming from suspend. Have you tried using a different usb port?

The next time this happens, after you resuming from suspend, run the following in a terminal. Perhaps it will give clues as to what the issue might be.

So that is a pretty solid piece of hardware, but they were known for being fussy with the USB ports after any kind of power management action.
Now usually that would mean the mouse stopped working completely but I suppose it is not out of the realm of possibility that it could just affect buttons.

This is a shot in the dark, but perhaps installing TLP and allowing it to do some power management might fix things.

I have tried different ports sometimes issue persists. But the main thing to keep that reason off is that the right mouse button all the time works.

Trackpad malfunctions always, whichever OS I am in, and the fingerprint sensor doesn't work at all.

A Linux n00b, can’t help, but still to be unsure if SW or HW is infuriating.
This issue is unusual for any OS, in particular for Mint.
The other mouse was wired as well? (sorry, yes, +1 for the left micro-switch, this brand is …

)

Anyway.
After “suspend” and then tapping a key (wakeup) the whole machine HW will restart, peripheral controllers (like USB chipset) are reset, USB connected devices will reset / restart as well.
For the HW this is very similar to a reboot.

Thus the “sometimes have to completely reboot” sounds a bit strange in this context, could be a hanging app in these cases.
… Is it always the same app?

Did you try to disconnect / reconnect the mouse, just to reset the mouse HW?
The USB controller chip or any SW wouldn’t reset and still hang, only the mouse chip would restart and reconnect to the USB controller.
… Reconnect to a different port?

Sorry, my last idea would be to run Mint live from USB stick and check if it happens, too.

'If' it's a hardware issue I would not be surprised if spraying a little 'contact cleaner' into the switch (in your case the left click switch inside of your mouse (as you would have to take it apart to gain access to the left click switch area)) would cure it.

I had issues with my left click button acting up on my ASUS WT465 mouse and once I did that, it's been perfect ever since and it's nearly 10 months later now (I did it on April 27th 2022). when I took my mouse apart you can see it's a plastic switch with a tiny white clicking thing as you can't really take that apart (at least not easily) and I just kind of sprayed it the best I could into the switch area (just one quick spray since it sprays out rather hard/quickly) and worked it in (by clicking the left click switch rapidly with your finger nail) and then put it back together and so far it's been great, so I must have gotten enough of the spray into the switch area of the left click for it to work it's magic.

'contact cleaner' (it's in a can and sprays out of a little plastic thing you connect to it (it comes with the contact cleaner can) to direct it's spray into the area you want it to go) really helps on switches etc as I used it here and there over the years on other things like a old alarm clock switches/dials and a old tape recorders switch I had from early 1990's some odd years ago now to restore it's switch to pretty much like new condition. basically anything where a switch is making so-so contact it can really help with.

p.s. I use a single AA NiMh (rechargeable) battery in mine as it's easy to see when the battery needs re-charging given it starts failing on everything and then I pull it out, check voltage of battery, and sure enough it's basically dead. so I just re-charge it and I am good again. I probably get about 1-2 months out of each charge with the current battery in it, which is of lower capacity than say a quality Eneloop AA (which would be 1900-2000mah or so). so with a Eneloop it would extend battery life some.
