[SOLVED] LM 21 Lagging (Cinnamon, 64-bit)

Post by VanillaCallOption »

I've just bought a new machine, everything new but the SSD, which is only a few months old itself, and I'm running into an issue where everything will slow down for a few seconds, seemingly at random. The mouse cursor will stick and stutter, any web pages I have open will struggle to load, audio on YouTube will cut out or glitch.

I've tried switching from the recommended NVIDIA graphics driver to the open source xserver one and that didn't resolve it and I've had a look in system monitor for CPU spikes and the highest any line has gone is 60%.

Anyone got any ideas?

I've had a look through the logs and this keeps coming up,

iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: WRT: Collecting data: ini trigger 4 fired (delay=0ms).
ieee80211 phy0: Hardware restart was requested

You may want to try a newer kernel. I've seen where newer kernels have cleared this type of issue. There have also been cases where some have found having the sensors applet installed caused micro-freezes.

Check to see if the 5.19 kernel is available in Update Manager. (View > Linux Kernels) If not, give the 5.17-oem kernel a try. You can install the latest 5.17-oem kernel with

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install linux-oem-22.04
and reboot.

Cheers. I actually updated to 5.19 not long after making this thread and the lag did go away, but I'm still having Wi-Fi issues and
made a thread in 'networking' specifically for that.
