Zoom client crashes when joining meeting [LM 21.1 Cinnamon]

Post by dayknower »

Hello everyone,

since a few days, I have experienced the following problem: Every time I try to join a meeting, the client crashes the exact moment I join the meeting. I am using the .deb package from the official zoom website that they provide for LM. The version is the latest one.

Here is the output of inxi -Fxxxrz:

Here is the pastebin link to one of the crash reports: https://termbin.com/mu8v.

Since I am using a custom xanmod kernel, I thought that the latest version of it might be causing the problem. However, using the generic kernel provided by LM itself (5.15.0-58) instead did yield the same result.

Is anyone also experiencing this problem or might have an idea what causes this?

Thanks in advance!

It is happening to me too.

I upgraded to Linux Mint Mate 21.1 from an earlier version and found zoom had disappeared, so I downloaded the latest .deb package for Linux Mint from the Zoom web site (this week) and installed it from the command line.

Zoom works until I am admitted to a meeting (waiting for a meeting works fine) and I sometimes will hear a few words from someone who is speaking and then it crashes. I did send a crash report to Zoom.

Best,

Geoff

I have this problem as well, although it is currently not happening. I assume that it's just intermittent rather than fixed, which means I'm expecting that I won't be able to attend some meetings soon.

I have discovered how the zoom client will work without crashing, but I can't repeat it so easily.

I tried logging in to a meeting which hadn't started yet.

I clicked on the invite link which took me to Firefox and opened the zoom.us website which launched the client on the desktop. The client just sat there with the warning that the host had not started the meeting at that point.

I then went back to Firefox, and clicked the link below the blue button, titled "open zoom in browser". Firefox then asked for permission to utilise the microphone and laptop camera, which I gave.

Then the host started the meeting and the zoom client connected without crashing, but was unable to connect with the camera. Then I chose the camera in the video device list, and zoom fired up the meeting. So I had one meeting in the zoom client.

For my next meeting, the zoom client was launched by Firefox, it went straight to connect to the meeting and promptly died. I was then forced to use zoom in the browser.

So it looks to me as if the video camera is the issue.

Preface: I do not have zoom installed.

I think what might help to troubleshoot this problem is if you start the zoom client in a term window. This way any errors will be printed out in the term window and you can copy and paste them here. The command to start zoom - You can find zoom in your menu and then right click and choose properties. It should give the command line there.

I would be interested to see what the problem is also because I have some clients that might be moving to Mint instead of windows and would like to be prepared for this.
