[SOLVED] few errors when updating to last kernel and apps

Post by nooblinx »

After updating to kernel 5.15.0-58 I see few errors (one is critical) and login take around 1 minute. What is this CRITICAL error and also these data miner, pulseaudio and hddtemp error for? can I fix it or better using old kernel?

Hi,

Go back to former kernel?

Regards,

Hello, nooblinx.

At the top of your Linux Mint System Information (inxi output), I spot 2 desktop managers (DM) instead of only 1: GDM3 42.0, LightDM 1.30.0

Code: Select all

System:
  Kernel: 5.15.0-58-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 11.3.0
Desktop: Cinnamon 5.6.7 tk: GTK 3.24.33 wm: muffin vt: 7
dm: GDM3 42.0, LightDM 1.30.0 Distro: Linux Mint 21.1 Vera
    base: Ubuntu 22.04 jammy
I wonder what GDM3 42.0 is doing on a LM 21.1 Cinnamon system. The default would be only LightDM 1.30.0.

I could imagine that GDM3 42.0 might be involved in the problems, which you experience as well.
I have to admit though that this would not explain why, when booting your previous kernel 5.15.0-56, the same problems do not occur.

If you have a Timeshift snapshot of your system before you installed gnome desktop, I suggest rolling back to that snapshot. Running gnome desktop is one way to mess up your Cinnamon install.

Newer kernels add security patches and bug fixes. Just because you are now seeing different messages does not mean there was no problem with the prior kernel. It's possible a bug fix is know making known you had a problem all along.

Or you could be misinterpreting the messages. In many cases when there is an error, the system tries again and succeeds the second time which makes the first error irrelevant. That is likely the case with most of what you posted.

Here is the Kernel 5.15.0-58 Changelog. I see some audio related bug-fix backports which may be why you are now seeing messages related to pulseaudio.

The key message seems to be with Cinnamon and for that you should probably check the .xsession-errors file which is a hidden file in your home directory.

I have not backup without gnome. I will look into xsession-errors you said.

Got same errors in downgraded kernel (but with few days delay), so it is not related to kernel :D

I fixed Tracker error with this:

Code: Select all

rm -r ~/.cache/tracker3 && rm -r ~/.cache/tracker
I think pulseaudio error related to bluetooth? I have not any so I ignore it.

That would explain why it can not connect.

Do you have any more concerns about the messages? If not, please go to your first post in this topic, click the pencil icon, and add [SOLVED] to the beginning of the title so others know you are no longer seeking help on this issue.
