My mouse no longer works in Linux, but works in Win 10

Post by Menard »

When I click or double click for anything, the result is randomly between a double click, a single clic or nothing ... single click being the more frequent, but not far after come the 2 others, and sometimes I must repeat a click, 3 or 4 times to get a response, knowing that finally it can be a double click response that lead to do it again
I cannot use a PC like this
It may be caused by the new RAM I use, it uses the AMP feature (equivalent of XMP for AMD platforms) and we don't know what are the CAS value with Linux (supposing the can differ from those on Windows on the same platform) as I don't know a tool that display them on Linux, even CPU-x I ve tried yesterday

Re: Mouse click acting randomly

Post by Menard »

First update :

- Same problem if I disabled the AMP feature in the Bios so to come back to default settings for this RAM : 1600 MHz
- It affects the drag feature as well ... as it is impossible to drag something without clicking some things on the way, things that bring consequences and make the drag to fail

Second update

- The problem is there with my previous 8 GB RAM as well, but less worrying, it seems to have enworsed compared with the past as for example in my weekly order at the drive-thru, last week I had no problem like this, and this week I had many products with 2 ordered instead of 1, and when I wanted to reduce the number, I had then the product removed and had to do my order again !!!

It is so possible that the mouse problem evolves independently of the rest, and i had allready made a topic here about mouse click problems with LO Calc

The situation is going worser and worser
I try to modify the settings in the mouse section but if I set the sensibility to the minimum (low) because I must be able to type my pw for my bank account ... then I cannot open a single folder on Nemo or an application in the Cinnamon startup menu or in the lower bar
I don't really understand if the Timeout setting for the double click, has influence on this, I tend to set it to the lowest
I ll try to restore with Timeshift to January 10

Has it occurred to you that the problem could be the mouse itself.
I would certainly try another mouse.

I am not a mouses shop so I begin to change the RAM, the system :)

- Windows 10 : all is fine
- Restoration of Linux Mint : done but still to test (it s far better but there is some things)

NB : before this problem there was a time when I accidentally disconected the mouse from the computer and then I reconnected it ... and went on my work ... is this harmless ?

I would certainly try another mouse.
I was with the same PS2 mouse (Genius) since 2004 ... and the first USB I buy, would be broken in less than 3 monthes ?

Update :
- There was none issue on my Linux 20 Live USB Ventoy Stick when I restored by Timeshift ... neither with the clicks nor Timeshift or else
- On my system it is the left click that seem to fail, because on Nemo when I am totally blocked to open a file or a folder by double clicking, I can bypass this easily by the right click
- It acts as if there was some suspend times, because sometimes it seem to work properly but sometimes there are some sorts of crisis of mysfunction

Perhaps something there ? viewtopic.php?t=318465

I had the same problem. It was cured by buying a new mouse of better quality than old one. New mouse no problems.

According Google, there is a problem of "planned obsolescence" with this low cost Logitech products ... I am lucky to have reached one year and a half ... (I ve finally checked the date, it is the keyboard that I ve replaced recently) or there would be also a problem with dust and so i ve tried to blow with an air spray, but without success
In fact I had then a time on windows 10 with this problem and then on linux, so no miracle :?

My Windows machine just updated to Windows 11 and now that mouse is having some problems but I believe it is Windows 11 not the mouse. It is hard to get Thunderbird to open now. Microsoft really wants one to only use their own programs.
