volume fluctuating on its own

Post by tiKol »

Hi All,

I have seen this issue being discussed but cannot understand where to start from.

I have volume fluctuating on its own when on "Speakers Built-in Audio". It is very annoying, especially when I am at work because volume changes both up becoming noisy and down becoming inaudible.

It happens especially with the Spotify client. It seems to me that it happens also with Firefox but perhaps with a lower excursion.

Any hints on where to start from?

Thank you!

Just looking at the output above: is it normal to have three Sound Servers running at the same time?

Yes. That is normal for an LM21 version install. They all have different purposes.

I suggest checking what settings are available for the Spotify client. It's possible this might be some type of issue related to network latency.

Ah!

Indeed there is a "Streaming Quality" setting at "High". Indeed I have the impression that it happens only at work....

I will put it to "Automatic" and see what happens on Monday at work.

How come network latency affects volume !?

I do not use Spotify so I just did a search on "why does spotify volume fluctuate" and it came up with a lot of hits.

Here is a Spotify thread Volume changes up and down during all solng which started in 2012 and was finally locked in 2019. Apparently, all kinds of devices receiving Spotify can have this issue. Best I can tell, it seems to be related to audio settings on the receiving device and how they are interpreting what comes from Spotify? See if something in that topic gives you ideas because, as I said, I do not have the app.
