Aptik problem in LMC 21.1

Post by lamar »

I have been using Aptik a few years with no problems. after a clean install of LMC 21.1, a problem. In Aptik when I go to select storage location none show up. The storage drive is mounted and shows in Nemo.
E-mails with Tony George have not helped, he thinks it is a Linux problem.

that is weird,
I am a faithful user of Aptik, and wondered if it was not working in LM21.1 as I have not tried it since 21 beta upgrade.

it seems it works fine here,
I do not use it to backup /home data, so it runs fast.

Not showing in inxi. :? What says lsblk -f? With the drive attached and mounted, of course.

that report to me, looks like a BAD cable to the drives.
what you are seeing is a Reflection of the real drive information.
that is caused by "out of phase" signals on the wires.

something is wrong with the cable(s) or connectors.

several years back, the USB-2 ports on a laptop went bad, I ordered a replacement, and it was junk also. threw the laptop in the trash.

does it not seem odd that the only thing that gives trouble is Aptik? every thing works perfectly. that should eliminate cable problems.

he was showing the report from lsb
and that showed the additional phantom drives

that is NOT Aptik, that is hardware

no phantom drives here

I remember back with LM18 and an old laptop, that in Live Session, the WiFi worked just fine, I could select and log into any of the WiFi channels we had then.

But, once the install was finished, the Broadcom WiFi drivers were NOT installed....
they had to be installed separately after the fact, which is a complete bunch of Crap.

that is the fault of the Installer at that time.
since then, I never, ever, bought or used any laptop with Broadcom WiFi crap.

So, what I am suggesting to you now, is that the Live Session had access to drivers/library files that are needed by Aptik, but the Fresh Install does not have. And that is why Tony George mentioned it is a "problem in Linux"

what is needed now, is above my paygrade.

I did a clean install this am. booted up, immediately installed Aptik before making any changes. started Aptik. It worked as it should. Made a backup. Rrebooted and Aptic no longer worked. Select could not see sdb1, but could see a usb thumb drive.

you did it the Reverse of the way I do installs.

I do NOT add any application, until AFTER all Updates have been completed.

but, for me, Aptik has always worked, since LM18 when I first found it...

And, I never make changes without a Timeshift immediately prior to that change, so I can backup and repair the install.... and search for what isn't working.
