[SOLVED]VLC player 3.0.16 (System Package Version) crashes every time any video is started.

Post by TheBloodyScreen »

Since about an hour ago, with nothing else having changed since, VLC player has started to just immediately crash every time any media is played.
The second anything should start playing it just closes.

I have tried reinstalling to no change at all, however I have tried the flatpak version, which has no problems at all.
Though since that version does not respect the system theme, and because this is an issue that wasn't there before, I would obviously love to have the "proper" version working again.

The only thing that I could potentially think of that has something to do with this is that I have been using Hypnotix when VLC crashed the first time. Though neither un, not reinstalling that did anything either.

The log looks as follows, which doesn't mean anything to me.

vlc uninstall still leaves the config files in your home folder
the path is /home/username/.config/vlc. This is a hidden directory (ctrl+h to show)
You can delete that folder and it will get recreated with fresh configs when vlc is started.
Everything in life was difficult before it became easy.

That did indeed help getting it running and on the path to figuring out the issue.

Evidently having the video output set to X11 video output (XBC) suddenly became the issue.
XVideo output (XBC) appears to be working fine now.

However I am confused why that would suddenly become an issue when it hasn't been so far and nothing I can tell changed.
