WINE program crashes {Solved}

Post by OunceofCommonSense »

I have used Foobar for years under WINE without issue now it is crashing possibly due to WINE updating to ver 8.0
I get this error log
failure_00000011.txt.zip
(3.6 KiB) Downloaded 20 times
. Hopefully someone has insight on what is wrong and how to fix it

Leave your existing Wine as-is and install Play-on-Linux. Try the program there. You can select older versions of Wine from within Play-on-Linux.

Thanks but I am still getting crashes of Foobar2000. It isn't happening within a couple of seconds as before now in a minute or so. Other WINE programs work fine and this program was working fine up to a few days ago

There was an update on Jan 25th where WINE went from ver 7.0 to 7.0.1 . I think I will see if it can be rolled back
I tried Play on Linux
32 and 64 bit versions of Foobar both beta and stable. I will likely do a Timeshift restore

Timeshift seems to have corrected matters I will blacklist WINE in updater for now

Tried Play on Linux again. It works! Thanks

I've also done a bit of struggling with making Foobar2000 to run in Wine 8.* (don't remember the exact version, but just updated) where it always crashed when converting. It usually went 3/4 of a convert just to either freeze or force close on itself.

So - happy to chime in and report that installing Foobar2000 through Playonlinux using Wine 7 solved that problem.

IF you don't mind - add a [SOLVED] in the title of your OP so that anyone searching the problem know that it works.
