Hey Guys and Girls,
Remember you can always use a local repo for the packages & updates (helps keep LM's overall bandwidth lower also). http://linuxmint.com/mirrors.php

Re: packages.linuxmint.com currently down [SOLVED]
I'm still getting the same errror from my mintUpdate.
I tried changing default repository server, but it's the same. If i do 'sudo aptitude update' i get no errors, same from synaptic. Only mintUpdate reports this problem.
Any idea greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hi,
Try to remove the offending line from /etc/apt/sources, then tell mintupdate to refresh. See if you still get an error. If you don't, try and put it back in.

Re: packages.linuxmint.com currently down [SOLVED]
It throws an error because of that line and if i remove it, mintUpdate reports no errors. Once i put it back in, the error is back. I did however miss earlier that synaptic also reports this problem. I tried switching a few mirrors, but it's the same. aptitude from command line works as expected.
Re: packages.linuxmint.com currently down [SOLVED]
mintupdate uses Synaptic to refresh its cache.

Re: packages.linuxmint.com currently down [SOLVED]
Hi Clem,
thanks for the info.
So far i tried:
sudo aptitude clean
deleted *.bin in /var/cache/apt/
changed repository mirrors
I don't know where's the problem, at least i can do updates from command line. I did however reformat my root partition recently and kept my home partition intact, perhaps there are some files stored in my home directory that could be causing this mess?
Thanks again for the help,
best regards

Hi,
Try to go in Synaptic, reload, then in the preferences update the sources by unselecting-reselecting them... and see if that fixes the problem.

Re: packages.linuxmint.com currently down [SOLVED]
Hi,
the problem remains, even if I uncheck/recheck all the boxes in the Software Sources. Then I tried manually editing sources.list file, and found out that in this line
deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ helena community main upstream import
the 'community' part is problematic. After manually removing it, the problem went away. This is the default repo, yes, and needs to be there?
Thanks,
primski

Re: packages.linuxmint.com currently down [SOLVED]
Oh ok
The community section isn't there for Helena anymore. CEs now have their own repositories and users need to go through maintainers to add packages to the repository.
