mintUpdate trouble - is this upstream?

Post by red-e-made »

mintUpdate can't seem to connect, no matter how many times it's refreshed.

Is this something on the Mint end, or something further upstream?

By the by, I ran

Code: Select all

sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf
and then

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
and everything went smoothly, until it got to packages.linuxmint.com, at which point it hung at the 99% mark, and then gave the following message:

Code: Select all

W: Failed to fetch http://packages.linuxmint.com/dists/gloria/Release.gpg Could not connect to packages.linuxmint.com:80 (80.86.83.193), connection timed out

W: Failed to fetch http://packages.linuxmint.com/dists/gloria/main/i18n/Translation-en_US.bz2 Unable to connect to packages.linuxmint.com http:

W: Failed to fetch http://packages.linuxmint.com/dists/gloria/upstream/i18n/Translation-en_US.bz2 Unable to connect to packages.linuxmint.com http:

W: Failed to fetch http://packages.linuxmint.com/dists/gloria/import/i18n/Translation-en_US.bz2 Unable to connect to packages.linuxmint.com http:

W: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
Hope this info helps.

Glad it ain't just me. Chances are it's a server thing, and our team will have this sorted in short time.

same here. was playing around a little bit. Thought I had damaged my system. So it's, even if it's bad, good news to read that it is a general problem

for linux to be successful on the desktop for normal users, normal users have to feel comfortable with it.
The interesting users are your mother, your neighbor. Those are the people that will decide whether or not linux is accepted on the desktop.

Great to see it's not just me that is having problems,I did a complete re-install of “Helena” last night and totally freaked when my system wouldn't update.
Any idea when the server will be up and running again?

Hi!

I have the same problem since yesterday in Felicia, but that's not what I'm posting about...

Apparently, mintUpdate doesn't know what to do if it can't update through all of the repos and it shows (after a good deal of blinking time) that there are 17 updates available, all of which are restricted, high-risk updates (level 4 and 5) such X.org, base-files etc...

I don't know if that issue still applies on Gloria or Helena, but it could cause some serious problems if someone doesn't notice and just performs an update...

Thought the team might like to know...

(P.S. Problem with repositories seems to be no more... Just checked before posting... Keep up the good work!)

Excellent, Husse, thanks to you and Clem. Wanted to see if anyone else was having this issue, but I will also PM in the future.
