I installed PlayOnLinux 3.7.6 and then I installed Steam without any problems. After the installation finished I started Steam client it first updated. After it finished updating then it got weird because steam client is shown in the panel and its shown that it is selected but there is nothing displaying in the windows. I took a snapshot to illustrate the problem I am having.

System info:
Linux Mint 8 Helean (GDM) 32-bit

Sorry I don't have an answer to your problem, but there is some good news. It is now confirmed that Valve is making a version of Steam for Linux, so you won't have to use the Windows version via Wine. There is no set release date yet, but rumor has it that it will be this summer.

That is a great news to hear, it sure does brighten my day. Well..I just have to bite my time till then.
