It just goes to show that we are all different. I have no problems with FF which I find second best to none. Good luck with your switching!

I've only used Midori on LMDE and it was so horribly slow I would have preferred (almost) to run IE6. I thought this was strange though, since it's a WebKit browser.

Seems pretty quick here.

I'm running the latest development version compiled from git, along with the latest version of webkitgtk.

Midori needs some small interface improvements.. but i think its better then firefox, Runs faster, Boots faster, Less mem use... etc

I have tried Firefox/Iceweasel, Seamonkey/Iceape, Midori, Dillo (no features but gosh it's quick!), Konqueror (when I was trying KDE), Swiftfox, and Opera.

I find that Opera is very useful on slow connections, because it has this cool built-in accelerator (Opera Turbo) that does not totally ruin graphics like some "speeder uppers" offered by dial-up ISPs do. It also has a built-in e-mail client and all kindsa widgets and other fun stuff to play with.

I'm on a satellite internet connection here and due to exceeding our bandwidth allowance the company has slowed our internet speeds. With Firefox it might take a few minutes for a page to load up. With Opera, with "Turbo" enabled, I hardly notice that my speeds have been slowed by the ISP!

I'll use it while I'm being "punished" by Wildblue Communications, lol. But when I have served my sentence it's back to Firefox for me. Swiftfox was a joke, by the way. No different from using an older version of Firefox with pipelining enabled and that kinda stuff.

Open a terminal (Applications>Accessories>Terminal), and copy/paste these three lines:

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:midori/ppa

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webkit-team/ppa

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install midori

do you have ubuntu installed ?
firefox is running out of the box in my linux mint 9 gnome install, but, in ubuntu lucid is a garbage.
anyway you can try chromium, is too fast, but, firefox is most complete (addons, themes ,etc.)

Firefox should stay, it is a kind of established standard, with extensions it integrates better than Chromium... And while this is just personal opinion for me it's still the best browser, stable and with a level of customability that nothing can compare.

+1 for Opera.
It is faster than FF in LMDE, never crashed once, has many features buit-in, (for example, email-client, speed-dial, unite, and a few more)

No problems with Firefox crashing for me. Chrome has crashed a few times in LMDE, but never once crashed on Mint 10. I use both and like them equally well. I personally don't like Opera. Just not as intuitive to use as FF or Chrome.

Chrome and Chromium is still way to buggy along with not being fully supported as a whole.

Chromium is my primary browser simply because of speed. Even if it's not spec-wise, it feels 2x as fast as FF/Iceweasel to me. I've got Iceweasel installed as a backup browser in a Debian XFCE install, and while I've never had stability issues with it, it just crawls. There are a few pages that Chromium doesn't render well so I'll jump over to Iceweasel for those, and I really like the DownThemAll extension in FF/Iceweasel better than DM's in Chromium.
