Installed M-10 in new partition. Sound works fine in Mint-9 on .PPS files.
No sound on M-10. Wmv files, sound is OK. Where to look?

@Elisa: Hi, yes, w32 was installed already. I installed the
non-free codecs also while I was in Synap. No improvement.

Howdy, no luck trying ti install JMF.
Verified the 'good, bad, and ugly' variants were installed.
Still , no sound. Compared M9 gstreamer search against M10's.
Slight version numbers diff.
Will not pursue this further at this time. Just stay with M9.

No sound with Linux distros on .PPS files (Windows creation) is quite common. I have spent a lot of time trying to find a fix to no avail. I have not come across anybody who can pinpoint why it works with some distros and not with others. Months and months of wasted time. I keep Windows, reluctantly, on one machine for these sort of incompatibility issues which also include hardware (scanners, webcams, etc.) for lack of drivers for Linux.jeffy39 wrote:Howdy, no luck trying ti install JMF.

Howdy All,
Mint-10 seems to have inherited this bug from 'buntu-10.
Someone posted on the 'buntu forum with the same problem.
Their solution: remove OpenOffice and install LibreOffice.
It worked for me on 'buntu 10.10. Probably work on Mint?

Had same problem...solved in both Mint and LMDE removing Open Office
and installed Libre Office.
