Random Freeze

Post by Chrishas »

Hi everyone,

I'm a Linux Mint 9 user on an HP Compaq nc6320 laptop. my pc randomly freezes 2-3 times everyday. The screen freezes and i can't input anything by keyboard or mouse, CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE or other combinations don't work and the only way to solve this is by a restart. My kernel is version 2.6.32-21-generic and i install all updates. On the last crash i found the following entry in syslog:

Code: Select all

This kind of crashes have always happened since i installed Mint but the last few days it became annoying due to the increasing frequency. Thanks in advance for any help, Chrishas

Have you noticed this occurring when your doing something specific, or does it only/also occur while at idle?

Just to confirm a few things:

you are using gnome desktop?

I didnt see anything that would cause your setup to freeze. What I would be tempted to do is upgrade to 10 and see if it still happens. I dont know alot about kernels or anything but I hate to see you have issues and not make any suggestions to you. Mint is awesome. Just make sure you back up your stuff before you start.

Yeah i'm using Gnome 2.30.2 at the moment. I'm planning to upgrade when I have the time. Then I'll see what happens
