no sound below 20%

Post by red123 »

I noticed that when I set my volume control settings to below 20%, I would get no sound. This applies system wide on all applications. The sound does not just fade away, it just mute itself below 20%. Any idea on how to fix? My laptop model is Dell M1530 and I am using Mint 10

Hi red123!
Though I never heard this: Did you try:

Code: Select all

gnome-alsamixer
I suppose, "alsamixer" and "pavucontrol" did not have any success.

Command not found. When I did pavucontrol, I see the little playback bar moving left and right showing that the system is picking up that something is playing, but then I do not have sound below 20%

If you use Mint 10, than your default desktop is Gnome, if you run

Code: Select all

gnome-alsamixer
you should see something like:

I just installed it and I noticed that the mixer master bar was all the way at the bottom even though the volume bar is not at 0. How do I fix this?

Hi!
First we should find out your sound card:

Code: Select all

cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec
and

Code: Select all

aplay -L

Just so you know - I've been searching for the launchpad bug for this. I was sure that there was one - couldn't find it though.

I've had the same thing for 2 or 3 release with ubuntu.

There is a bug report now - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/695605

Thought I was the only one with the problem.
