Google Earth on Linux Mint 10 Julie

Post by lamebeaver » Mon Jan 31, 2011 1:12 am

I downloaded and installed Google Earth and every thing looked like it installed OK, but when I click on the icon or click launch, nothing happens.

I would first try to disable compiz. If that doesn't work try running it in the terminal and see if you get any errors.
It could be an graphics setting.

Type google-earth in the terminal. What do you see?

If you are running NVidia driver and the driver has been updated some day:
Type locate libGL.so in terminal. You will see some files with three numbers behind the name. These (version) numbers should be the same, if they aren't, delete the oldest version of libGL.so (using sudo rm). Be careful not to delete the newer version. You may need to log out or restart.

Hi,

After installing lsb-core try these lines in terminal:

wget http://dl.google.com/earth/client/curre ... hLinux.bin

sudo chmod a+x ./GoogleEarthLinux.bin

./GoogleEarthLinux.bin --target GoogleEarthFixed

mv ./GoogleEarthFixed/setup.data/bin/Linux/x86/setup.gtk ./GoogleEarthFixed/setup.data/bin/Linux/x86/setup.gtk2

sudo ./GoogleEarthFixed/setup.sh

rm ./GoogleEarthLinux.bin

rm -Rf ./GoogleEarthFixed

Thanks,

RC
