Another Tremulous Question

Postby davidshane » Sat Dec 15, 2007 5:37 pm

Whenever I play Tremulous (a game) full screen, after about 10 minutes I'll get popped back to the desktop, with Tremulous now taking up just part of the screen, and not responding to my commands. Any idea what could be causing this? It happens even when I have nothing else running, minus software in the background like Bluetooth Manager. And it's really annoying to only be able to play for 10 minutes. Merci.

P.S. This does NOT happen with BZFlag, another full screen game.

I had the same problem. The problem was caused by trying to run certain openGL applications while running Compiz. Assuming you have that installed, your best bet would be to disable it while you're playing games:

Code: Select all

metacity --replace

Then turn it back on whenever you quit:

Code: Select all

compiz --replace

To me, this solution was tedious. I decided the best thing to do would be to make a script to do this automatically, but I couldn't figure out what I needed to put in a script to have it recognize when an openGL program was running, so I just downloaded and installed winefix(below). This turned out being better anyways, as it fixed other errors as well.

Success! I'd call that solved.

I have maked a script for this problem:

#!/bin/sh
metacity --replace &
sleep 3
tremulous
sleep 3
compiz --replace

I have called it trem.sh
Give this 2 commands:
sudo chmod 777 tremulous.sh
sudo cp tremulous.sh /usr/bin

and you can modify the launcher in the menu with "sh /usr/bin/trem.sh"
It works very good.
