Skype crushes my system [SOLVED]

Postby vistad » Sat Oct 15, 2011 4:23 am

My Linux Mint Katia Gnome 32 freezes on Skype 2.2 beta (obtained from software channel) start every other time. I notice that usually empty swap file becomes filled up to 100% at that. What log should I check to find the clue? Now I've purged that version and downloaded the newest one from Skype web site, and we'll see. If anyone knows what's the problem - please advise! Thank you!

Off topic: MS owns Skype. Could that be the reason?

On topic: I also use 2.2 beta (from the software channel) on Katya, but in the 64 bits version. Here it runs well. When I look at the Skype website I also see 2.2 beta as the latest version. Which version did you install from that website?

I installed Katya yesterday, along with Skype. 64b. it was working, But it wouldn't start now. somehow same happened yesterday - but i figured : it is because I tried to install some telephony program. I uninstalled it and it did start.Today though Skype doesn't want to start...

If MS did it, it would be dead already, just imagine the number of Skype users! :)

5 days ago I had purged the Skype version obtained from the software channel and installed the version I downloaded from the Skype web-site (2.2.0.35). Up to now it worked fine - not a single system crash. I'll wait another 5 days - if it's OK, I'll close the issue as solved.

The newest Skype does not crash the system. Closing the topic.
