Evolution Email

Post by wiggy25 » Mon Dec 05, 2011 8:03 pm

I installed this on MInt12 through the software manager.

All OK until it came to running the program.
It came up all OK but when I clicked on the create new account button it just shut the program down.
Anybody else had any issues with it?

Cheers

Ian

From this line, my guess is you did:
  • Menu
  • System Tools
  • System Settings
  • User Accounts
Would this be correct?

If it is indeed creating a new or re-creating a current account? No. All is well.

Since adding users from the Control Panel is kinda rare, I recommend firing up the Terminal and doing it all manually:
  • Menu
  • Accessories
  • Terminal
In the terminal I key in:

Code: Select all

sudo adduser --home /home/USERHOME --shell /bin/bash --no-create-home USERNAME
Everything in capitals is, of course, to be replaced. So adding user "Becky Jane" with her home folder "/home/beckyj" would look like this:

Code: Select all

sudo adduser --home /home/beckyj --shell /bin/bash --no-create-home becky

Thanks for the reply but I didn't do any of that.

I installed Evolution using the software manager to install it.
Once installed used the button in the top left hand corner to give the overview window and then selected applications.
Clicked on the Evolution icon which opened it up.

On this initial page there is a button which says create new account or something similar, I clicked on this and it just shut the program down.
I think there is another tab above this which says settings I think I pressed that as well on another atempt but that didn't do anything.

I just need to set up my email account but can't get into it to do anything.

I will try installing it again using the synaptic package manager and see if I can get it to work then.

Thanks again

Ian

I downloaded evolution using the start/other/synaptic package manager, seemed to do it's stuff okay. start/Internet/email setting opens a window with evolution account assistant and I clicked the add new account button and I'm back where I started NOWHERE.

I also did your thing in terminal sudo adduser --home /home/stan --shell /bin/bash --no-create-home stan and it responded with adduser: The user `stan' already exists.
So I guess I['m forced to use Thunderbird. Regards Ian stan
