Icons are missing

I installed Mint 12 successfully to both my desktop and notebook PC. After some use some icons are missing in the Gnome desktop under Applications in both PC. Any help?

Install Main Menu to sort out what programs show (and don't show) in your menus: "sudo apt-get install alacarte".

Thank you but alacarte doesn't work with my gnome desktop, it meshed up all icons and categories. I solved partially under gnome classic desktop. The problem still remains. Why under gnome desktop are visualized the programs of the debian category if, in my case, debian categories is not enabled in main menu? Anyway I have stability problems with firefox and also sOmetimes everything disappears from the desktop and remains only the background image. By now, I will use gnome classic, it seems more stable.
