Screen not dimmable?

Post by smc170 »

Hello 'nixers,

I recently (yesterday) received my new Lenovo ThinkPad T420, i5 with an Nvidia NVS 4200M graphics card. Vary nice setup, and everything works pretty much perfectly, except one thing;

I am un-able to dim or brighten the screen, via the dedicated buttons, or from any other software source, like the settings manager.

When i reboot, it seems to be a relatively random brightness, and i can't seem to find a fix... And i think it may be the fact that i have the Nvidia drivers installed, and i think i have to edit something in the xorg.conf.nvidia file.

Any suggestions?

Thaks, live long and run Sudo

Don't know about that but you could try adding acpi_backlight=vendor into /etc/default/grub after the quiet splash. You need to do this using gksu gedit and then sudo update-grub.
[Edit] your original post and add [SOLVED] once your question is resolved.
