Software manager is crashing down

Post by oskar12 » Sun Feb 26, 2012 8:08 pm

Hello All,
Today I installed linux mint 12(kde- the blue one version), after one year of using ubuntu I decided for this OS as I was not satisfied with ubuntu unity.
Instantly after running the linux mint 12, I wanted install my favorite programs via Software Manager. But immediately after opening this manager, the window closes again up. Sometimes I manage to strike down just one or two letters in the finder, and than the software manager shuts down again. Pls, could someone help me, and in easy English explain, whot is the problem?
Thank you very much :)

Let's try a re-install; enter these to the command line one at a time:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get remove mintinstall
followed by

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install mintinstall

Thank you for quick answer :) I tried reinstall the software manager, but unfortunately the problem still persist :(

See if

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get check
would fix any issues. I'll be honest I am a little out of my league now  Does the synaptic package manager have what your looking for? I realize it's not ideal but you can use it while we work on fixing the software manager.

I'm not aware of a solution to this problem. Look for the following package in Synaptic and install: muon-installer This will give you a similar type of program called Muon that will have to suffice until a solution is found.

I am having this same problem with a fresh install of 32-bit LM12 KDE--the Software Manager just vanishes after running for a few seconds. I tried the methods offered so far without any luck. I've installed Muon, but remain utterly confused by Software Manager's unexplained behaviour.

someone (or someones) please run 'mintinstall' directly from a terminal, and post the complete output back here. Also, post a copy of /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old

edit: does this http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=199&t=62866 work for you guys?
