package manager wont run

Postby dorkes_malorkes » Sun Feb 24, 2008 4:14 am

When i try to get updates or run the package manager, in Linux Mint 4.0 main edition, it gives me the error message saying that i have to run 'dpkg --configure -a' I have had this problem before and got it working easily. This time when i run it, it doesn't finish. i have let it run for over an hour, last time i did that it took only a couple of minutes. Is there another way of fixing this problem?

sorry if this post is difficult to understand, and thanks for taking the time to read it.

sudo dpkg --configure -a

This did not help?
What is the exact error message?
You can try to remove all *.bin files in /var/cache/apt/ Requires sudo

Code: Select all

sudo rm /var/cache/apt/*.bin

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

this is the exact error message...

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E:_cache->open() failed, please report.
