Dummy Output Missing Sound for Kabby Lake

Postby microuser » Fri Feb 17, 2017 12:41 am

My audio shows Dummy Output as its sound choices. It is missing my intel onboard sound and I see the error Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/i915/kbl_dmc_ver1.bin for module i915_bpo linux mint acer aspire when I am at the terminal

I am Missing Sound for Kabby Lake Acer Aspire E15 Laptop E5-575G . It is the Intel i5 7200U

I have been looking around. It seems this is a known issue with Ubuntu 16.04

I have attempted to use the Linux Mint Drivers Manager, and choose the intel-microcode and restart. but this does not fix anything. When I choose nvidia graphics driver, cinnamon GDM crashes and I just set it back to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau to get cinnamon working again.

Ask ubuntu has an article on it : http://askubuntu.com/questions/832524/u ... 528#832528

Intel's website shows this: https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads/firmware

For posterity I did the commands on 2017-02-17

Code: Select all

cd ~/Downloads ;
wget https://01.org/sites/default/files/downloads/intelr-graphics-linux/kblgucver914.tar.gz ;
wget https://01.org/sites/default/files/downloads/intelr-graphics-linux/kbldmcver101.tar.bz2 ;
wget https://01.org/sites/default/files/downloads/intelr-graphics-linux/kblhucver02001810.tar.gz ;

I then extract them all into their own folders

I then

Code: Select all

cd kbl_dmc_ver1_01;
sudo bash ./install.sh

cd ~/Downloads/firmware/kbl/huc/kbl_huc_ver02_00_1810
sudo bash .\install.sh

this still did not fix.

so I

Code: Select all

sudo update-initramfs -u

It seems i'm still missing the intel graphics too so i choose 64 bit deb : https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads/ ... -os-v2.0.2

Code: Select all

wget https://download.01.org/gfx/ubuntu/16.04/main/pool/main/i/intel-graphics-update-tool/intel-graphics-update-tool_2.0.2_amd64.deb

and i still don't have sound and my intel graphics says my distribution is not supported.

has anyone had a solution to this?

Got same exact issue, and seems like I have independently recreated your steps with the same results. :-(
