no sound in YouTube

Get no sound at all for any youtube.

Running 17.3 with all updates.
Browser is Firefox 55.0.2 (32-bit)

Sound settings is
Analog Output
Built-in Audio

Ran the test sound and that works fine from both speakers.
alsmixer has everything set to maximum.

Then I started google chrome and was going to check youtube from there.
When I started chrome, the sound from the Firefox tab running youtube suddenly started playing.

Why?
What happened?

Hello rutiezer and Welcome to Linux Mint,

I think the issue maybe the flash plugin. Chrome activates it own flash player. Firefox is dependent upon an installed one.
when you install mint did you install the third party software? If not go to a terminal and type the following. reboot and try again.

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

Then

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-addons

I tried this and it did not work for me. I am using my TV and unable to hear sound, and unable to run u tube videos. I can only choose built in Audio, and not Tahiti XT HDMI Audio. This happened after I updated. I am so frustrated.

You should start a new thread as your problem differs somewhat from the original post here.
HDMI problem not quite the same.

But I would suggest that you install

 pavucontrol

found in synaptic, and try using that it may let you switch to HDMI
