My laptop's speaker and microphone don't work

Post by celoman »

Greetings, I have a problem and it is that the speaker of the laptop or the microphone does not work for me, I have tried to see in the driver manager and it does not tell me that I have nothing pending to install, how can I solve it?

Previously in w10 it worked for me, if you connect headphones you can hear it and the microphone of the headphones works

The computer detects the sound card and even if you speak or play sound the computer frame as if it detects it (I have not disabled things in the sound panel, they are enabled)

(Cinamonn Ulyana 20)

I have tried to do things like reinstall pulseaudio but it was not solved and I have been informed that in cinammon it is dangerous to purge

I leave here more technical information:

Hi celoman, and welcome to the forum.

Your outputs actually look pretty good compared to what I was expecting.

Let's get a look at your sound setup with this command:

Code: Select all

curl https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/raw/master/src/utils/pa-info?inline=false | bash | nc termbin.com 9999
The last line of output will have a URL pointing to the info.

See if this helps:

Code: Select all

amixer -c1 set Beep 0% toggle
Then test the speaker sound.

For the microphone, a different test. Install if necessary and run PulseAudio Volume Control and on the Input Devices tab lower the right channel all the way to zero. If you only see one slider, click on the lock icon to expose the left and right channel sliders.

Well, that invalid card number is wrong based on your previous output:

Code: Select all

Sink #0
	State: SUSPENDED
	Name: alsa_output.pci-0000_00_14.2.analog-stereo
	Description: Audio Interno Estéreo analógico
	Driver: module-alsa-card.c
	Sample Specification: s16le 2ch 48000Hz
	Channel Map: front-left,front-right
	Owner Module: 8
	Mute: no
	Volume: front-left: 98304 / 150% / 10.57 dB,   front-right: 98304 / 150% / 10.57 dB
	        balance 0.00
	Base Volume: 65536 / 100% / 0.00 dB
	Monitor Source: alsa_output.pci-0000_00_14.2.analog-stereo.monitor
	Latency: 0 usec, configured 0 usec
	Flags: HARDWARE HW_MUTE_CTRL HW_VOLUME_CTRL DECIBEL_VOLUME LATENCY
	Properties:
		alsa.resolution_bits = "16"
		device.api = "alsa"
		device.class = "sound"
		alsa.class = "generic"
		alsa.subclass = "generic-mix"
		alsa.name = "CX20751/2 Analog"
		alsa.id = "CX20751/2 Analog"
		alsa.subdevice = "0"
		alsa.subdevice_name = "subdevice #0"
		alsa.device = "0"
		alsa.card = "1"   <------------- There's the card number right there
I guess you'll have to run alsamixer in the terminal yourself. Find the right card with F6, then move to the Beep column and lower it all the way then press the m key to toggle it off.

If that doesn't work, try this:

Code: Select all

sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/sound-fix.conf <<<'options snd-hda-intel model=generic'
Run that in the terminal then reboot and test everything.

sorry I did it on the wrong laptop, gave me the following result:

Code: Select all

Simple mixer control 'Beep' ,0
Capabilities: pvolume pvolume-joined pswitch pswitch-joined
Playback channels: Mono
Limits: Playback 0 - 7
Mono: Playback 0 [0%] [-28.00dB] [off]

Okay, maybe we've been going about this the wrong way.

Install and run PulseAudio Volume Control (pavucontrol) and go to the Input Devices tab. If you only see one volume slider click on teh lock icon to expost the left and right channel sliders and lower the right channel all the way. This might get the mic working. And sometimes installing pavucontrol magically fixes everything.

I already tried everything, but unfortunately the miracle did not happen :cry: Can you think of any other solution?

Did you do this one:

Code: Select all

sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/sound-fix.conf <<<'options snd-hda-intel model=generic'
After that has been and a reboot, if the sound still isn't working paste this one again please:

Code: Select all

by the way, install the OS from scratch to version 20.1 (Ulyssa) in case it was an installation error, but it still doesn't work

You need to try the first command from this post, and if it doesn't fix things, then do the second one which should give a URL at the end. Then hopefully that will spur new ideas::
