I've got problem with dvd viewing recently.
System: Linux Mint 14 Cinnamon.
VLC does not work with dvd: message in terminal after dvd opening: "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" (this is at the end of the log), then vlc is closing.
MPlayer crashes after I try to play disk.
I can watch dvd with Movie Player (totem), but navigation is buggy and I even can not get to certain chapter.
Please help.

I found that some movies work fine with vlc.
Looks like xine plays all movies including the movies that vlc does not play.
So, xine may be a partial solution.
But I found that behavior of each player strongly depends on disk - I do not know how and why.
For example, in one case xine plays animation in dvd menu (looks like randomly) and menu is not active.
None of the player is 100% perfect - meaning the situation is possible when I have to try all of them before I find a good one for the particular disk - it is not good.
So, the problem remains and still unclear since everything worked well a week ago and now it does not.
I will appreciate suggestions for debugging.

this worked for me . just use copy and past , from this link, if you want to try some things on it, its my post i made cuz i had problems playing encrypted dvd's and now i can . ok here is a link to my post.

I tried that. Apparently, I had all that installed.
Nothing changed.
Still, xine is the best solution (except for one particular disc).
I think I can live with that.
Will post if find any relevant info on the errors in vlc.
