Flash videos all green purple and distorted

Post by steve24rdg »

Hello to everyone.
I have an annoying problem, I cant get videos to play I can hear the sound but the image is purple green and distorted. I checked out several posts with so called fixes but nothing seems to work in my case.
So what do I do now?? I got rid of XP because it had become so slow and unpractical, I thought I could revive an old desktop computer with linux, only to be dissapointed.
I have tried lubuntu and linux mint 16 xfce, both the same result. Not good really and getting quite annoyed with it.
I have puppy linux on an old laptop and flash videos work fine. I would put it on the desktop if the app installer, software center and automatic updates were as good as the mint / ubuntu distros.
Can someone please help me fix this problem on what is in every other sense a good distro

Thanks

You need video ram to play video. I'm running a quad core i7 and with 1024MB of shared ram, just running off the onboard video, I was able to watch most HD vids. I was happy that I didn't have to install a PCIe-16 card. Then I watched a HD with a little higher pixel density and the screen images stalled. So I installed a video card and I'm good. The thing about video ram is that 1GB should be enough to play 1920x1080, but the speed of onboard video, even with a Hazwell CPU, is nowhere near the speed of the vram in a card.

I dont think its a ram issue as flash worked fine on this computer when I had ubuntu 12.10 installed.
anyhow here is a copy of my system info for those who might be able to make sense of it.

I have the same exact problem as Steve and have never found a solution on a new Mint 16 Mate install. All flash videos are, as Steve posted, "green purple and distorted." I deactivated acceleration in flash but it did not work. It is frustrating.

It looks like I have a similar setup on an old Dell. Here's my info:

I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, and later Flash. Same problem. Other than just switching from Firefox to Google Chrome, has anyone found a fix?

Can I try to update the driver(s)? If so, can anyone give a "newby's" guide on exactly how to do it? I've found a driver download center on Intel's website ...

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail ... ldID=13815

... but it is confusing and I cannot figure out exactly what to choose. I don't want to do something I can't undo.

Thanks.

Answer: Click on the flash object, get settings/properties. Toggle between (On/Off) hardware acceleation. Although I kinda like my martian and venetian colored newscasts..

The problem lies with the newer kernel and intel graphics. It can be fixed by making a xorg.conf file that allows you to use the old acceleration method. See item 3. in this topic: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 16#p781916
