(Solved) Music files mess up cinnamon taskbar

Post by Shankaraya »

Versión 13 (maya) de 32-bit, Núcleo Linux 3.2.0-23-generic, GNOME 3.4.2

If I open certain FLAC files with clementine or VLC, the names of open applications shown in the taskbar are messed up, all content of the taskbar dissappears. I changed audio output from pulse audio to ALSA. No cure. Some characters cannot be shown in the taskbar, I think. Changing the theme didn't help. With audicity no problems. with mp3 as well.

Which Graphics driver are you using

Code: Select all

inxi -G
--and is it using a lot of RAM from the system ?? (the application: Clementine I mean)

If its Nouveau, it may lag with some applications
--or it is just a slow GPU (Graphics)
  • You can improve an applications's response by allotting more RAM to the app or decreasing the display effects used on your system

Graphics: Card: Intel Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller
X.Org: 1.11.3 drivers: intel (unloaded: fbdev,vesa) Resolution: 1024x768@85.0hz
GLX Renderer: Mesa DRI Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset x86/MMX/SSE2 GLX Version: 2.1 Mesa 8.0.4

It seems that clementine almost no uses RAM; less than 1% of the 2 giga that my compaq presario laptop has.

Itś not with all FLAC files. Some I can listen and others mess up the desktop.Even after splitting them. With mp3 and APE and WAV no problems

On mint 17.2 rafaela the same problem. Panel messed up. Only with some FLAC albums. Lowering the screen resolution doesn't solve the problem either.

I can add that mp3 files give the same problem and that it happens with VLC as well. Also running in VirtualBox. Only with cinnamon desktop. Openbox, freedesktop, xfce and MATE din't show the problem

Hi Shankaraya.

I wonder if turning off all the visual effects would stop this from happening. See here.

A fresh install of linux mint 19 solved the garbling.
Maybe for not using proprietary video driver now.

Damn Shankaraya. If you had just waited one more day, this would've been solved on the 4 year anniversary of your original post!

Glad you're fixed. :D
