Z97X-UD5H-BK No Sound

Post by Pizzly » Tue Mar 24, 2015 10:55 am

I just bought a new Gigabyte Z97X-UD5H-BK but it's having a sound problem in Linux Mint 17.1-

Sometimes I hear the sound or music, but it's at such a low volume that it's barely audible, but most of the time all I hear is crackling and popping noises.

The audio on my previous GA-P45-UD3P worked perfectly with Linux Mint 17.1-

I tried the HDMI through the monitors' speakers which works okay-

The audio also works fine in Windows 7 (I dual-boot)-

I tried adding the line [options snd-hda-intel vid=8086 pid=8ca0 snoop=0] to the modprobe.d file, which did not fix it-

And I upgraded the 3.13 kernel to 3.16.0-31-generic kernel without resolving the problem either-

Does anyone know how to fix this? It's really a bummer....

Thanks!

Usually , option about sound device is in file /etc/modprobe/alsa-base-conf. Do you create a new file :?:
Try add the line in alsa-base.conf first. And remember to reboot.

to see if your sound card is being recognized and what it is paste this into terminal:

Code: Select all

sudo aplay -l
and post results using

Code: Select all

 tags.

hi pizzly,

I have this motherboard and sound worked from the start.

Is your computer attached to a monitor or are you using a HDMI cable to get the sound and picture to your TV.

If it is connected to your TV then you will not get any sound. You need to go to Control Centre, then to sound. Look for the tab for output and select (in my case) Cape Verde.

No, it's connected via HDMI to a monitor....basically the same setup (just swapped-out the cpu, ram and motherboard) with the same mint v17.1, and the sound worked fine on my older P45-UD3P rig....

Thanks tho-

Hi Pizzly,

Can you have a look in The Control Panel and select Sound, then the Output tab and see if you have any options other than the top default one.

If you have, then try them 1 at a time. My only other option does mention HDMI.

Resolved...turns-out it was a problem with the speakers, not the computer or linux

Thanks!
