Newieb HTPC question

Post by RichBar » Thu Apr 23, 2015 7:32 pm

I have 17.1 installed on a computer to start looking at. My question, what would be the best way to setup a HTPC? I have one that I bought several years ago, but with windows 7 it does not have enough power to stream my movies.

I have tried to install openELEC, it streams good, just no sound.

So will Mint be able to this and how hard would it be to setup?

Thanks
Rich

I've been fiddling around with streaming tv programmes and films I've stored on a networked hard drive. It's a bit complicated as the programme files are stored in an unusual format. I discovered that you can do it direct from LinuxMint if you install VLC (from the software manager) and play the files through that. I also mounted the hard drive to my home folder so I could scroll through the listing, select a programme and click on 'Open with VLC'. If your videos are on the same machine that makes things easier.

If you want linkage to the video package artwork and IDMB reviews and all the other bells and whistles you might try installing OSMC from htps://osmc.tv
Go Steady, but keep going
