Converting aax files

Post by JohnRLaw » Thu Jun 04, 2015 11:38 am

I am trying to convert .aax audio files to .mp3 audio files. I have used Sound Converter to successfully change audio formats. When I tried to use it to convert an aax file to mp3 I received the following message.

"Python (v2.7) requires to install plugins to play media files of the following type: audio/x-gst-fourcc-aavid decoder.

Another window also popped up and it said
"Error
failed to install plugins:<enum GST_INSTALL_PLUGINS_NOT_FOUND of type GsInstallPluginsReturn>

It appears to me that I need another decoder plugin. I do not know where to find it or how to install in Sound Converter.

Can you help me?

Thank you.

I don't know what backends you have, esp. since don't say which DE you have. And I haven't dealt with .aax files.

But you may need the ugly gstreamer plugins from the look of it.

Just search "ubuntu convert aax".

Not familiar with aax files or their weird process for getting/listening, but google ["linux" aax file] returns some stuff about people playing them with mp3 players, like this (maybe?)
http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-933707.html

If you can play it, you can record the sound and save it as a normal format. Slowly...

Here's a converter that might work under wine:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/aaxtomp ... =directory

Search for aax in synaptic gave

Code: Select all

xine-ui is a frontend for the libxine video player library.
This package contains additional front ends, aaxine, cacaxine and fbxine which run even on the console, so you can use it to watch DVDs even in an xterm. ;-)
Edit: google "aaxine" shows that it's an "Ascii Art" player. Nice of them to mention that.

Edit2: "Play Audible Audio Books in Linux"
https://scottlinux.com/2011/01/30/play- ... -in-linux/
Needs 'wine'.
Please edit your original post title to include [SOLVED] if/when it is solved!
Your data and OS are backed up....right?

AAX is hard to convert unless you use some tool for converting AAX files.
- As for the tool, I suggest TuneFab Apple Music Converter which is helpful.

Reason: it is suggested that you don't acivate old topics, but rather sart a new one, instead.
